Mike Hamlin has been turning pots professionally since 1996 immediately after graduating from Columbus College of Art and Design, in Columbus, OH.
"I love working in clay because it allows me to physically feel the material I am working with. I absolutely love touching things and ceramics feeds that desire in me. My work is distinguished by the unique textures and colors of the glazes I make. I was originally influenced by Mid-Century Modern Scandinavian aesthetics. This style provided a perfect canvas to display the crater glazes and matte glazes I use. My love of Botany and Horticulture influences the various forms I currently make. I prefer to abstract the forms I observe in nature and under the microscope rather than representing those shapes."
